Analyze resources

This feature helps users clear and optimize resource configuration by identifying and managing

zombie VMs (unused but resource-consuming VMs), idle VMs (VMs that are not accessed for a long time), VM snapshots, and orphaned disks. By analyzing the resource usage of hosts and clusters, users can quickly identify resource bottlenecks and waste, and then take appropriate actions. Additionally, this feature can generate detailed resource usage reports. The reports provide a comprehensive overview of resource usage, offering data support for subsequent resource optimization and reclamation. To ensure continuity of resource analysis and optimization, the platform provides the scheduled task function that allows users to schedule regular resource analysis for automated management.

Manage resizable resources

This feature monitors VMs on the platform to provide recommendations for scaling up or down

resources based on history data and current resource usage. When resources are insufficient, the system prompts users to expand resources. When resources are excessive, as a best practice, reclaim surplus resources to reduce unnecessary costs. This feature helps users fully monitor and manage VM resources through resource analysis, which improves resource usage and overall system performance.

Features

• Scale up VMs

• View the excluded VM list

• Exclude resizable VMs

• Export the resizable VM list

Procedure

  1. Select Hotkey > Resource Analysis.

  2. Click the Resizable tab.

Parameters

• VMs: The number of VMs that are recommended for CPU and memory configuration adjustment.

• Recommended vCPU Increase/Decrease: Calculated by subtracting the recommended number of vCPUs to be decreased from the recommended number of vCPUs to be increased. A positive result indicates the total number of vCPUs recommended to be increased. A negative result indicates the total number of vCPUs recommended to be decreased.

• Recommended Memory Increase/Decrease: Calculated by subtracting the recommended memory capacity to be decreased from the recommended memory capacity to be increased. A positive result indicates the total memory capacity recommended to be increased. A negative result indicates the total memory capacity recommended to be decreased.

• Alias: Alias of the VM. To quickly access the summary page of the VM, click the alias link in the Alias column.

• Description: Description for the VM.

• State: Current state of the VM.

• CPUs: Current CPU configuration of the VM.

• Memory Settings: Current memory configuration of the VM.

• Recommended CPUs: The number of CPUs recommended to be scaled up or down. The icon indicates scaling up the number of CPUs to the specified value. The icon indicates scaling down the number of CPUs to the specified value. To perform a scale-down operation, shut the VM down and adjust the configuration on the VM configuration page. This page does not support scale-down operations.

• Recommended Memory Size: The memory size recommended to be scaled up or down. The icon indicates scaling up the memory size to the specified value. The icon indicates scaling down the memory size to the specified value. To perform a scale-down operation, shut the VM down and adjust the configuration on the VM configuration page. This page does not support scale-down operations.

Scale up VMs

Perform this task to scale up the number of CPU cores and memory size for VMs online.

To scale up or down the number of CPU cores for a VM, shut the VM down and then adjust the CPU core configuration on the VM configuration page. After you perform a scale-up or scale-down operation (including the stateful failover scenario), the VM is temporarily not displayed on the Resizable page, which is normal. The recommended values on the Resizable page for newly started VMs might be inaccurate due to little performance data. As a best practice, view the recommended values after the VMs run for some time. In the stateful failover scenario, after you perform a scale-up or scale-down operation on a VM and perform a primary/backup switchover, the system detects the VM and recommends resource adjustment for that VM again.

  1. Select Hotkey > Resource Analysis.

  2. Click the Resizable tab.

  3. To bulk scale up VMs, select one or multiple VMs, and then click Scale Up.

  4. To scale up a single VM, click Scale Up in the Actions column for that VM.

  5. Edit the VM configuration based on the recommended values, and then click OK.

View the excluded VM list

Perform this task to view the resizable VMs moved to the excluded VM list. You can also remove the

VMs from the excluded VM list so that they can be displayed in the resizable VM list.

  1. Select Hotkey > Resource Analysis.

  2. Click the Resizable tab.

  3. Click View Excluded VM List.

Exclude resizable VMs

Perform this task to move resizable VMs that no longer require attention to the excluded VM list. Then,

the VMs are no longer displayed in the resizable VM list. The exclusion functions of the reclaimable resource management and resizable resource management work independently.

  1. Select Hotkey > Resource Analysis.

  2. Click the Resizable tab.

  3. To bulk exclude resizable VMs, select one or multiple resizable VMs, and then click Exclude.

  4. To exclude a single resizable VM, click Exclude in the Actions column for that VM .

  5. In the dialog box that opens, click OK.

Export the resizable VM list
