Manage components
Use the component management function to centrally manage various critical components of the
system. Use component management to easily enable functions such as bare metal service, external platform access, CDP component, and the cloud security management platform.
• The management platform does not support the bare metal service if the management node is an ARM host.
• Hosts running the Tencent OS do not support the bare metal service.
Component management provides the following functions:
• Manage component packages
• Manage bare metal
• Manage external platforms
• Manage the CDP component
• Manage the cloud security management platform

Manage bare metal
Manage external platforms
To integrate an existing VMware virtualization environment into the management platform for unified
management, you must enable the external platform feature. Then, you can use VMware external platform-related functions on the Compute > External Platform page. For more information about the external platform functions, see External platforms.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the Components tab and then select the External Platform menu item.
-
Select whether to enable the API service, and click Save.
Manage the CDP component
Continuous data protection (CDP) is a data protection technology that captures and saves every data
change in real time or near real time. It enables precise point-in-time recovery. Unlike traditional scheduled snapshots or periodic backups, CDP continuously traces data changes, minimizing data loss. You can manage and deploy the CDP component on the component management page.
Deploy the component
Deploy the CDP component by uploading and deploying it.
Upload the component package
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the Component Packages tab, click Upload, and select the component package file to upload.
-
Click Start to complete the operation.
Deploy the component
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the Components tab and then select the CDP Component menu item.
-
Click Deploy to open the Deploy Component window. Configure the host, storage, and network information when deploying the CDP component.
○ Basic info:
▪ Component package: Select the component package required for deploying the component.
▪ Cluster: Deploy the component VM to the specified cluster.
▪ Planned protected VM count: Specify how many VMs to protect.
▪ Component deployment mode: Select either single or cluster mode. Deploy one CDP component VM for single mode and three for cluster mode. You can protect up to 30 VMs in single mode and up to 100 in cluster mode.
▪ Master node: If the deployment mode is cluster, specify which node in the cluster acts as the master CDP node.
▪ Number of CPU cores per component: Specify the number of CPU cores for each CDP component VM.
▪ Memory size per component: Specify the memory size of each CDP component VM.
○ Select hosts: Assign each CDP component VM to a specific CVK host. Configure the storage pool for the system disk, which is fixed at 360 GB and cannot be edited. The entire CDP environment requires at least one backup disk. You can assign the backup disk to any CDP node.
○ Network information: The network information includes a management network and a backup network. Configure both for each CDP component VM, and add a VIP to the management network. Follow these restrictions and guidelines:
▪ Make sure all management network IPs are in the same subnet.
▪ Make sure all backup network IPs are in the same subnet.
▪ You can select not to configure a gateway for the backup network.
▪ Select the management network vSwitch for the management network.
▪ Since backups require transferring large amounts of data, prepare a separate 10G NIC to create a vSwitch as the backup network.
-
After completing the configuration, click OK to start installing the component. Check the deployment progress on the task console.
-
After deploying the component, access the HA Service > Backup Center > CDP Backup for VMs page to use the backup function.
Edit VMs
Administrators need both VM management and CDP management permissions to execute this operation.
Perform this task to reconfigure the VM with software and hardware options.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the CDP Component menu item.
-
Click the Edit icon in the Actions column for a VM to open the Edit VM window.
-
From the menu, select a VM task as needed. Each time you finish editing a category of settings, click Apply to save the changes. For more information about VM configuration, see the online help in the VM module.
-
To add hardware options (for example, storage, NIC, USB, and PCI devices), click Add Hardware. To delete unused hardware options, click Delete Hardware. For more information about VM configuration, see the online help in the VM module.
Bulk edit VMs
Administrators need both VM management and CDP management permissions to execute this operation.
The system supports bulk editing VMs to update shared configurations consistently.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the CDP Component menu item.
-
Select the VMs and click Bulk Actions. From the menu that opens, select Edit to bulk edit VMs. For more information about VM configuration, see the online help in the VM module.
Start
Administrators need both VM startup and CDP management permissions to execute this operation.
To put a VM in service, start that VM.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the CDP Component menu item.
-
Select the VMs, click Bulk Actions, and select Start from the menu. The confirmation dialog box opens.
-
Click OK.
Shut down
Administrators need both VM shutdown and CDP management permissions to execute this operation.
This operation powers off the VM. Before the VM is shut down, the VM system data is saved first. The system shuts down the VM by sending a shutdown command to it. Whether the VM can be shut down correctly depends on its operating system. After you shut down the VM on the management platform, the actual state of the VM might differ from what is displayed on the HCI management platform. As a best practice, execute the shutdown action within the VM.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the CDP Component menu item.
-
Select the VMs, click Bulk Actions, and select Shut Down from the menu. The confirmation dialog box opens.
-
Click OK.
Power off
Administrators need both poweroff and CDP management permissions to execute this operation.
This operation forcefully power off the VM to shut it down. When you power off a VM, unsaved data will be lost. As a best practice, shut down the VM correctly to avoid data loss caused by directly powering it off.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the CDP Component menu item.
-
Select the VMs, click Bulk Actions, and select Power Off from the menu. The confirmation dialog box opens.
-
Click OK.

Deleting a VM also automatically clears its backup data.
Perform this task to delete all non-running component VMs.
-
On the top navigation bar, click System.
-
From the navigation pane, select Component Management.
-
Click the CDP Component menu item.
-
Click Delete above the VM list to open the delete component confirmation dialog box.
